A Trip to the Beach

After a week of rainy, hot and humid days, today was the best day of the week. We took a trip to Coney Island to hang out, walk the boardwalk, see a couple of freak shows, eat greasy artery clogging food, and...RIDE THE CYCLONE!! Yes, that old rickety, wooden roller coaster. I must say I may never, ever ride it again! First of all certain people had the bright idea of sitting in the back. OK??? I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time. I think I got whiplash from the violent thrusting from side to side, I have bruises on my knees, elbows and thighs, a sore throat from screaming non-stop for the full ride and once it was all over it took me about 5 minutes to remember where I was and all this torture for $8. Would I ever go on it again...OH YEAH!

I laid low today and left my baby home, these were taken with old faithful, my Canon SD900 point and shoot.

Sept. 11

Today is Sept. 11 and every year brings back the memories of that terrible day. What started out as a normal day at work ended up being one of the worst days of my life. I have never felt such fright and watching the towers burn and then fall is forever etched in my memory. My office was so close to the towers. My girlfriend from work and I were the only two people that lived in Queens so since there were no subways running we walked together from downtown Manhattan to her house in Queens (we didn't even know how to walk to Queens but we had no choice and we figured it out...maybe 10 miles). It was hot, we had no cellphone service, no transportation, just our two feet and each other. We talked, laughed, screamed, cried and tried to keep each other going. We lost contact over the years but every Sept. 11 I would think of her and go back to that day.

After 6 years I finally spoke to her today and you'll never guess how I found her...Facebook! Yep, I tracked that little gypsy down. We vowed to keep in touch and get together soon. She was the only one that was with me and and we only had each other that day. It's not happy but it's our anniversary. This pic was taken at ground zero.

Time Off

I took some time off to visit my cousin/sister and partner-in-crime Mary in Greenville, North Carolina. It was a surprise party that my second mom aunt Shirley and I were planning since she says Mary is the hardest person to surprise. We really pulled it off; it stayed a surprise and everything turned out beautifully. It was nice to get away. I miss them :(

The theme was Thai and there was lots of yummy food!

We went out to eat and besides my beloved Cracker Barrel we went to a place called the 2nd Street Cafe and I loved it. It has a Soho, New York feel and the southern-style food was delicious. I loved the exposed brick and the message displayed over the door.

The Tipsy Teapot was a really nice, very cozy, quirky, laid-back little spot. While we were there, we enjoyed tea from their huge selection with gourmet sandwiches as "Chick" performed in the bar/lounge area. He was actually very good.

Oh and Bar-B-Cuties! Wow, oh so good! I didn't get to take a pic of my food because I was too busy scarfing it down.

Coney Island

One of my favorite places to go in the summer is Coney Island. It's not the nicest, fanciest or cleanest beach in the world but it has a typical old-school, New York vibe and I love it! The Cyclone, Wonder Wheel, Nathan's, Shoot the Freak...what's not to love? I remember the first time I was there, I begged my mom to ride the Cyclone with me and she did because I told her it would be fun and that she never does anything with me...ha! My mom is not a ride person but she did it for her sweet child ;) The Cyclone is one of the most rickety and oldest, headache-causing roller coasters out there and when my mom finally got off it she vowed to never, ever go on another ride with me again.

Happy 4th of July!

I planned on spending the day at the park for a 4th of July picnic. It was cloudy and rainy all day so that didn't happen, but instead we had the picnic on my terrace. We played cards, ate cupcakes and lit sparklers. Loads of fun! I hope everyone else had a ball too!

Finally!

This is my first real post. I'm Sandy Jenete (Jenete is my middle name). I have loved photography ever since I held my first camera. I take pictures everywhere I go and I especially love to take pictures in this great city I live in. New York, New York it's a wonderful town (don't know the rest of the words)! Besides taking pictures, my life revolves around my son, an old girl named Serena and my boyfriend who absolutely HATES taking pictures. So let me tell you, I have some lovely pictures of his hand as it's covering his face. I use a Canon 40D, it's my other baby.
